FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about hosting, entering and using Comp World.
How much does it cost to host a competition?
Hosting on Comp World is a once-off payment of $99 NZD (excl. GST) per competition. There are no ongoing fees and no hidden charges, and you keep 100% of your ticket sales. A small service fee is added to each competitor’s registration and is paid by the competitor — not the host.
What kinds of competitions can I run?
Comp World is built for dance competitions of every style — jazz, hip hop, ballet, contemporary and more — as well as singing, music and drama. From a one-day local comp to a multi-day festival, you get sections, age categories, scheduling, scoring and results designed for live events.
Can I run a multi-day event with multiple sections and age categories?
Yes. Build as many sections as you need — each with its own type (solo, duo, trio, group), age limits, entry fee and duration — schedule them across multiple days, and use waitlists when a section fills up.
Can multiple judges score independently?
Yes. Each judge scores on their own device, and you choose how their marks combine (combined total or average) and how placements are ranked. Scores stay private until you choose to release them.
What happens if the venue internet drops on the day?
Comp World pre-downloads every competitor’s music to the playback device, so the music keeps playing even if the venue Wi-Fi goes down. The live tools reconnect and resync automatically once you’re back online.
How do competitors’ songs get played on the day?
Competitors upload their backing tracks when they enter. On the day your operator plays them from the live music player — pressing play stamps the start time and advances the running order on every screen and phone, and every track is auto-leveled to a consistent volume.
What’s included for $99, and can I try it first?
The once-off $99 NZD (excl. GST) covers running one full competition end to end — entries, scheduling, live tools, scoring and results — with no ongoing fees, and you keep 100% of your ticket sales. You can build a draft competition for free to get a feel for it, and only pay when you’re ready to take it live for people to enter.
How is Comp World different from entry-only software?
Most competition software stops at taking entries and payments. Comp World also runs the event: live scheduling, on-the-day music, real-time multi-judge scoring, audience and backstage screens, and instant results — all in one platform, with a free app for competitors.
How do competitors enter?
Competitors download the free Comp World app on iOS or Android, find your competition, and register and pay in a few taps. They can upload music, select partners and complete entry tasks all in-app.
How do payments and payouts work?
Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Connect your bank account to receive entry-fee payments directly, and view total sales and financials in one place.
How do judges score performances?
Judges use the Judge Tool on their own device to view the current competitor, give written or audio feedback, and score in real time. Scores and results stay private until you, the host, choose to release them.
Can spectators follow the competition live?
Yes. A live schedule shows the running order and results in real time, and spectators at the venue can open it from a QR code — no login required.
